Cookies!

Today we celebrated the coming of Valentine's Day by making sugar cookies and decorating them. Now before the cooking went down I was really excited. I love to bake and decorate cookies as much as the next person. I even think I am pretty good at it. It is somewhat relaxing and a whole lot more fun than teaching all day. That was prebaking feelings. I decided that baking with 16 5 year olds isn't really all that fun or relaxing. In fact it is total chaos and I would rather teach...We started off well I poured the ingrediants and then let the kids each have a chance to stir. Then we rolled the dough which was also really fun for them. After that we cut the dough into fun shapes. Still no problem. Each child was allowed to cut 2 cookies. Then we baked them, this is where the problems start to happen. We put the cookies a little to close together and they turned into one huge cookie. When you have 16 little faces staring at you wondering "how will we decorate those and take them to mom?" you start to panic and make a second batch of dough and cut more cookies. Then the bell rings and the cookies that you were supposed to have baked and decorated are just now making it into the oven, in fact not all of them are even cut yet. In the end all the kids got 3 cookies and they all went home with icing and sprinkles. It did however take the help of 3 and sometimes 4 teachers to finish all the baking and the decorating. In general it wasn't a total loss. Some pics of Judy, the kids and me:

What did you do with the giant cookie? Hopefully, you decorated and ate it. Yum. --Maggie

Maggie, we didn't decorate it but we did eat it. You know me I don't waste or pass up food, especially if it is sweet!

Do you remember when you and kristin helped me make, roll out, cut out and frost 100 sugar cookies for my students? You were about 3 and 4. It took us all day long to complete, then when i went in to clean up a huge mess Matt made and came back in the kitchen, ALL the cookies had teeth marks in the the frosting where you and Kristin eaten all the frosting off all the cookies?

Love, mom

Mom, yes I remember the story being told (by you) I fully deny that I did that, although it does seem like something the 2 of us would've done...Just curious, what did you do with the 100 cookies? Did you give them to the students anyway?

Whenver I tell the story, someone always asks, "what did you do with the cookies?" I always answer, slapped some more frosting on them and took them to school! the truth is I put them in the freezer and you kids ate them for quite awhile! I still like frozen sugar cookies!

Well then I guess I better try to make vegan sugar cookies this weekend and freeze them to see if they are good...
